Tanzania Learns Tourism Lessons from Morocco for AFCON 2027

Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA is taking advantage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 finals to study ways to promote its tourism sector and attract investment, ahead of its joint hosting of the tournament in 2027.

Government officials travelled to Morocco to observe first-hand how the North African nation leverages major sporting events to showcase its tourism attractions, build international visibility and draw investor interest.

The Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Hamad Hassan Chande said this recently in Rabat, Morocco that the government is examining Morocco’s approach to infrastructure development, marketing strategies and stakeholder engagement in order to replicate successful elements in Tanzania.

“The Royal Tour has played a significant role in strengthening investor confidence by presenting Tanzania’s rich natural and cultural assets to a global audience,” Chande said.

“By studying Morocco’s investments in modern, efficient and attractive infrastructure, we hope to identify practical strategies that can elevate Tanzania’s tourism offerings and attract international investment.”

He added that major sporting events like AFCON provide a unique platform for destination marketing, allowing countries to reach global audiences and demonstrate their capacity to host large-scale international competitions.

“Our goal is to position Tanzania as a competitive destination for tourists and investors alike, and to achieve our target of eight million visitors by 2030,” Chande said.
