Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Acting Director General of the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), Dr Ladislaus Chang’a, has said that weather forecasts issued by the authority have an accuracy rate of 88 percent, meaning the likelihood of the predicted weather occurring is significantly higher than not occurring.

Dr Chang’a made the remarks today, December 29, 2025, in Dar es Salaam during a special interview with the national television station, TBC1.

He explained that the high level of accuracy is a result of substantial investments by TMA in modern weather monitoring and forecasting infrastructure, as well as the availability of highly skilled and experienced professionals in the field.

Due to this capacity, Dr Chang’a noted that TMA has been mandated by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to support other countries in the provision of meteorological services, including South Sudan, Burundi, and Namibia.

Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by TMA on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the authority identified regions expected to be affected by the heavy and potentially hazardous rains as Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Manyara, Kigoma, Katavi, Singida, Dodoma, Rukwa, Songwe, Mbeya, Iringa, Njombe, Morogoro, Ruvuma, Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Lindi, Mtwara, and Pwani, including Mafia Island.

TMA has urged the public to continue following regular weather updates and forecasts issued by the authority in order to receive timely and accurate information.
