Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA’S film industry is gaining international recognition, after the Executive Secretary of the Tanzania Film Board, Gervas Kasiga, took part in a high-level academic dialogue with experts from more than 10 countries.
The virtual event was prompted by a research presentation from Suleiman Risasi, a Master’s student at the Communication University of China and Assistant Lecturer at the University of Dodoma (UDOM).
His study explored how Tanzania could benefit from China’s experience in film production, technology and the performing arts.
Participants included scholars and film professionals from Indonesia, Myanmar, Rwanda, Namibia, Gambia and Ethiopia, reflecting the growing global interest in Tanzanian cinema.
In his remarks, Kasiga outlined the strengths, challenges and opportunities in Tanzania’s film sector.
He called for closer international cooperation, including expert exchanges, joint training programmes, access to new technologies and collaborative film projects.
The dialogue is expected to boost skills development among Tanzanian filmmakers, open up new international markets, promote joint research and strengthen cultural and economic links between Tanzania and China.
