Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIAN Felix Simbu has finished second behind Ugandan youngster Victor Kiplangat in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham City, UK and walked away with a silver medal.
Ugandan Kiplangat won gold in 2:10:55 ahead of Tanzania’s Felix Simbu, while Kenya’s late entrant into the field, Michael Githae, completed a 1-2-3 sweep of the medals by the three East African neighbours, according to the East African
Before Tanzanian envoys left the country, Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports Mohamed Mchengerwa said the government had set aside prizes for the medalists to grab.
“In recognising this, that’s why for the first time, the Government has decided to give motivations to the athletes who will win medals. 10,000 US dollars for gold medalist, 7500 for silver and 5000 for bronze medalist,” he explained.
As long as Simbu has scoop the silver medal, he is entitled to be awarded 7,500 US Dollars.
