Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE national cricket team coach, Kenyan Steve Tikolo will get involved into the so-called ‘region to region tour’ that will see series of cricket actions happening with a view to promoting and scouting young talents in upcountry regions.
According to the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA), a small group of Dar es Salaam based players headed for Morogoro to train under Tikolo at the weekend for a Tri series.
The Morogoro series involved two sides, Dar Tigers and Moro Stars in a -3 match series.
The visitors won two of three matches to emerge winners. And this, according to TCA, will mark the beginning of more ‘region to region tour to inspire and see the involvement of local cricket players in cricket actions in upcountry region.
To inspire his players, Tikolo, an all-time Kenyan world Cup player was also in action playing for Dar Tigers and made his first tour in the cricket region of Morogoro.
Tikolo, who is a right-handed middle order batsman and parttime right-arm medium pace and off-spin bowler, is regarded as one of the most successful cricket players in history who also spent time playing in England and Bangladesh.
In 2005 he was signed by Haverigg to play cricket in England. His last year’s recruitment by TCA as the national team coach inspires the current local young cricket generation to play to the international level.
During the Morogoro series, some excellent performances also came through from the series from Ivan Ismail, Salum Jumbe, Kibwana Salum, Pafrod Anacet and Ally Mpeka to mention a few.
Most of these players have had a great impact for the national team in various events. Members of the national team are currently in preparations expecting to feature in the ICCMen’s T20 Sub-Regional Africa Qualifiers rescheduled for October this year in South Africa because DIDIER Gomes of Coronavirus pandemic.
