Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE former South African president, Thabo Mbeki, arrived in Tanzania today, May 20, 2025, for the Africa Day Lecture to be held in Dar es Salaam on May 24 this year.

The Thabo Mbeki Foundation, in collaboration with the Tanzanian government, has organized the lecture at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre.

Upon his arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport, Mbeki was received by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Cosato Chumi.

This year’s lecture will be the 15th organized by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation and is expected to focus on discussions surrounding the future of the African continent. The event will bring together a diverse group of participants, including scholars, government officials, retired leaders, youth, and representatives from the private sector.

In addition to the main lecture, President Mbeki is also expected to take part in various important discussions, including those on the blue economy and tourism, academic forums involving university scholars, and dialogues on South Africa’s opportunity to chair the G20 and what it means for Africa’s development.

Tanzania was selected by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation to host the Africa Day Lecture for the East African region, a significant honor reflecting the country’s commitment to engaging in global conversations on Africa’s progress and future.
