Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) has continued to encourage Tanzanians and investors at large to invest in the fisheries sector, particularly in cage fish farming in Mara Region, citing the availability of various fiscal and non-fiscal incentives provided by the government.

The call was made during the National Domestic Investment Promotion Campaign being implemented by TISEZA, during which a team from the authority conducted a visit to cage fish farming projects in the region.

The visit aimed to showcase available investment opportunities as well as the conducive investment climate in the fisheries sector.

Speaking during the campaign, TISEZA Acting Director of Investment Promotion, George Mukono, said the Government has put in place specific investment incentives in the fisheries sector, including a 100 percent customs duty exemption for investors importing capital goods for direct use in cage fish farming activities.

He said equipment benefiting from the exemption includes floating fishing cage structures, fishing nets, boats and transport vessels used to access cages and transport fish from the cages to landing sites, nylon fishing ropes, outboard engines, hooks, and fishing lines.

Mukono noted that these incentives are part of the Government’s efforts to promote and attract investment in the fisheries sector, with the aim of boosting economic growth, increasing employment—especially for youth—enhancing national income, and strengthening food security in the country.

He added that the measures also seek to reduce the importation of fishing gear from abroad and stimulate domestic production, demonstrating the Government’s commitment to empowering investors through capital relief and improvement of the business environment.
