AfricaPress-Tanzania: MORE than 65 entrepreneurs have been registered and recognized for doing online business through a partnership with the Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC).

The entrepreneurs are registered through an integrated e-commerce multi-vendor market platform created by TPC known as ‘Posta Shop TZ’.

TPC, E-Commerce Manager, Ms Amina Salum made the revelation at the ongoing 44th Dar e Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) yesterday.

Ms Salum said the platform facilitates online shopping, selling, payments and logistics by individuals, businesses and corporates in Tanzania and internationally.

“Under one year since we established the platform, we managed to register 65 entrepreneurs, where two of the registered businesses are owned by Tanzanians living in the United States,” she explained.

According to Ms Salum, through the platform, sellers and buyers get a secure and trusted marketplace solution that seamlessly thrives from the underlying postal distribution and logistics infrastructure across the world.

She further said the online business has many opportunities, and their decision to coordinate these entrepreneurs has brought loyalty to retailers and a buyer because they are confident that what they order online is what they get without being conned.

Expounding further, she said any entrepreneur interested to join the platform can do so through their website to enable them reach local and international markets easily.

E-commerce is booming by leaps and bounds in Tanzania, and a few websites have been able to establish their leadership in the market, either by being the first movers or having strong (overseas) backing that allowed them to spend on marketing both online and offline. Very few Tanzanians still buy or shop online.

TPC provides delivery services in Tanzania and has the potential to be a major player in the delivery of e-commerce merchandise by offering its customers with access to simple, affordable and reliable national and international postal services.

Currently, TPC operates in 158 departmental offices, 90 franchised postal offices, 65 sub postal offices, 31 mail delivery centres, 212 private bags and 173,039 private letterboxes within the country.

EMS Services Manager, Mr Mbarouk Sasilo said the agency has entered into partnerships with various government departments for courier services.

He said in the joint venture, they are collaborating with the Ministry of Health, Community, Gender, Elderly and Children to transport samples from the city and deliver them to major health centres on time.
