UDART ordered to resume Mbezi-Mloganzila service

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (TAMISEMI), Prof Riziki Shemdoe, has directed the Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit Agency (UDART) to ensure that, starting tomorrow, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services operate from Mbezi to Mloganzila. The move aims to ease the current transportation challenges and to establish ticketing stations along the route.

Prof. Shemdoe issued the directive today in Dar es Salaam during an inspection tour of government funds amounting to more than 1.2bn/-, allocated for the purchase of spare parts to repair damaged BRT buses.

He further instructed the agency to ensure that the 49 new buses currently at the port are cleared and deployed promptly, in order to reduce the costs incurred from continued storage and taxes while they remain there.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit Agency (UDART), Pius Ng’ingo, pledged to implement the directives immediately. He also urged the public to use the transport service responsibly and to stop vandalizing transport infrastructure. He added that the 49 buses have already arrived in the country and will help address the existing transportation challenges.
