Africa-Press – Tanzania. MARIA Sebastian, Chairperson of the Economics, Empowerment, and Finance Committee in the National Youth Wing of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (UVCCM), has officially declared her intention to contest for the parliamentary seat of Kawe Constituency under the CCM ticket in the upcoming 2025 General Election.

Speaking to the press after collecting her nomination forms at the CCM offices in Mkwajuni, Kinondoni District, Maria expressed her readiness and confidence, stating that this is the right time for her to serve the people.

Maria, who has a long history of active participation in various political roles within the party and government, said she enters the race with vast experience and the resilience earned from facing tough competition in previous leadership bids.

“I have contested for several positions—including Regional General Meeting Delegate, Kigamboni District Delegate, National Congress Member, and East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP—and in all these, I faced stiff competition, but I learned, I matured. Now I’m coming to Kawe for victory. I see myself as a seasoned politician,” she said.

Maria said her decision to run for Kawe stems from her belief that the constituency needs a bold female leader with a clear vision for inclusive development.

“Kawe needs a woman—especially one with my character. Anyone else entering the race should prepare. I’m ready. I’m well-prepared for the task,” she added.

Speaking on women’s participation in leadership, Maria praised President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for setting a strong example of female leadership and for advocating gender equality in politics, especially the 50-50 leadership balance.

“Our President Samia has opened doors for us. This is not the time to wait for appointments. She has encouraged us women to come forward, and we are motivated. I am a living example of that courage,” she emphasized.

In addition to her current roles, Maria also participated in the selection process for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), where 47 women vied for a single seat reserved for Tanzanian women. She emerged as the runner-up—an experience she says greatly enhanced her political and international communication skills.
