The Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) has introduced VSOMO, a mobile platform enabling Tanzanians to learn technical skills via their smartphones. This initiative allows learners to study at their own pace and attend practical sessions at VETA colleges, thus enhancing accessibility to education and skill development across the country.
Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) has launched VSOMO, a mobile-based platform that allows citizens to learn, practice, and complete exams for technical skills directly from their smartphones.
At a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports in Dodoma, CPA Anthony Kasore, VETA’s Director General, explained that VSOMO gives learners the freedom to study anywhere, at their own pace.
“Once learners finish the online theoretical lessons, they will attend practical sessions at a VETA college. This reduces time spent on campus while maximizing the use of smartphones and learning time,” he said.
The VSOMO program was developed in collaboration with Airtel and Magilla Tech and is now fully managed by VETA.
It is accessible through all mobile networks across Tanzania, enabling people far from colleges to gain valuable skills without travelling.
Since its launch, hundreds of students have successfully completed courses via VSOMO and received certificates, opening doors to employment, entrepreneurship, and personal growth.
With this innovation, VETA is empowering Tanzanians to take charge of their education, upgrade their skills, and build brighter futures anytime, anywhere.
The Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) was established to enhance vocational training in Tanzania, addressing the skills gap in the labor market. With the rise of mobile technology, VETA has adapted its training methods to include digital platforms, making education more accessible to remote populations. The VSOMO platform represents a significant step in this direction, allowing learners to engage with educational content flexibly and efficiently, thereby promoting lifelong learning and skill acquisition.
