Africa-Press – Tanzania. Five members of the Zanzibar House of Representatives elected to the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania were sworn in in Dodoma yesterday and unveiled their priorities, which focus on bringing prosperity to citizens on both sides of the Union.

Speaker Mussa Zungu administered the oaths to six legislators, including five from the Zanzibar House of Representatives namely; Fatuma Ramadhan Mohamed, Mariam Said Hamis, Shaame Ali Ali, Simai Mohamed Said (CCM), and Said Ali Mbarouk (ACT Wazalendo).

Dr Lazaro Bunungu was also sworn in, representing Peramiho Constituency (CCM).

Speaking at the Parliament premises immediately after taking his oath, Simai Mohamed Said pledged to promote national unity and foster a culture of non-discrimination among citizens.

He emphasized the importance of addressing issues related to ports and joint transport systems, noting that they are key to strengthening unity among Tanzanians.

He said he will serve all people within the United Republic of Tanzania, stressing that everyone has equal rights, especially when it comes to accessing services.

He added that he will not be a silent member in Parliament but will act as a strong advocate for the people of Zanzibar, using various platforms, including engaging with the Prime Minister, to present their concerns.

He further noted that even in areas where representation from Zanzibar may be lacking or face challenges, he will take the responsibility of raising such issues in Parliament and ensuring their implementation.

On his part, Gando representative Said Ali Mbarouk said his main focus will be the establishment of a joint financial fund, which he described as a pressing issue for many citizens.

He noted that the matter has remained unresolved for a long time and stressed the need for a lasting solution.

“The major challenge is the establishment of a joint financial fund. I will not remain silent on this. To resolve it, it must be anchored in a new legal framework that will address many issues,” he said.
