Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR traders have been urged to effectively utilise the available online trade space—e-commerce—to sell their products in local and foreign markets.
The utilisation of the e-commerce will boost traders businesses and capital and their firms’ expansion. The Executive Director of Weight Measurement Agency (WMA) Mohamed Mwalimu said the e-commerce platform helps in promoting the country’s trade sector, also for traders to sell their products and services in a short time with low operational costs.
Speaking on behalf of the Director of Trade and Marketing from the Ministry of Trade and Industrial Development – Zanzibar, further encouraged traders to better use the broad spectrum of the internet market with more than 29.07 million of internet users in Tanzania, according to recent statistics by the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA).
He made the remarks during the two-day workshop which was organised by Zantel and held in Zanzibar. The workshop involved the business stakeholders including government officials and traders. The traders also had the opportunity to showcase and advertise their various products during the event.
“Due to the importance of ecommerce, he said, the government has imposed laws and guidelines to improve and manage the operation of such businesses,” he said.
He added based on the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the world has moved its businesses to online channels where businesses take place without a customer and seller meeting. Zantel’s Brand Manager-Zanzibar, Ms Rukia Mtingwa said the ecommerce workshop aims to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing e-commerce in the Island that the traders will get new customers from new online markets, increasing their sales and capitals.
Ms Mtingwa noted that the workshop reflects our mission of leading the adoption of the internet and overall digital lifestyle in our markets. She added that e-commerce helps traders to find a large number of customers, advertising their products and services, buying products for sales, saving time and lowering operating cost.
Also, it is a part of Zantel’s PASUA ANGA KI ZANTEL 4G campaign aimed at educating people on the importance of the internet in enhancing national social and economic developments.
