AfricaPress-Tanzania: A TOTAL of 74,166 students who are eligible to join the first form this year who were not assigned to school in the first phase, have been assigned after the completion of 2,257 classrooms.

Regional and local government administrations are also required to start enrolling students who will join pre-school education, first grade and first form next year, and the preparation of infrastructure and desks should start immediately.

This was announced yesterday in the city by the Minister of State, President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (Tamisemi), Selemani Jafo (pictured) while explaining the implementation of the directives of the Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa.

In December last year, the Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa met with regional heads to discuss how to receive students who are scheduled to join Form One in 2021.

At the meeting, he instructed all governors to ensure that students who are eligible to join the first form who were not scheduled for school in the first phase, get a chance by February 28, this year.

The governors were instructed to oversee the construction of classrooms and the manufacture of desks to ensure that the students had access to space. Jafo said 74,166 qualified students were not selected in the first phase thus requiring approximately 1,484 classrooms.

“In order to ensure that the order of the Prime Minister (Kassim Majaliwa) is implemented, the Office of the President – Tamisemi was monitoring and issuing various instructions for the construction of the infrastructure, as well as receiving information on the construction of infrastructure,” Jafo told reporters yesterday.

He said that as of February 28, this year, a total of 2,257 rooms have been built with the capacity to accommodate 112,850 students with a ratio of 50 students per class. “This means that compared to the first target, 773 additional rooms have been obtained, for because demand was 1,484 classrooms. If we could take more students in addition to those rooms we would be able to accommodate 38,684 students, ”he explained.

Jafo also said 1,374 classrooms are still being completed and are in various stages of construction. “As a result, all 74,166 students who previously missed positions have all been assigned to a school in accordance with government directives.

The Office of the President Tamisemi congratulates the people, education development stakeholders and government officials who participated in the construction of classrooms, ”said Jafo.

He called on all local government officials to continue to monitor closely so that the construction of classrooms can be completed and ensure that they are used.

In addition, he has instructed regional administrations and local government authorities to begin analyzing the demand for classrooms and desks for pre-school, first-grade and first-year students.

“Construction of classrooms for 2022 do not wait for the instructions of the Central Government. For this I would like to urge all regional and district leaders and directors to start now to do the training of young people who are expected to be accepted next year from pre-school, first grade and first form, and preparations to begin as soon as possible, “he said.

In addition, he said the government has already provided funds to build secondary school infrastructure and demanded that the infrastructure be completed before the procedure for the selection of students to join the fifth form 2021 has not been done.

“I urge the governors, all, district commissioners and directors of local government authorities to ensure that the construction of dormitories, classrooms, laboratories, and construction of toilets is completed as soon as possible.

“Because the government has already sent the money there we do not expect the time has come to select Form students, so the infrastructure will be completed quickly,” explained Jafo.
