AfricaPress-Tanzania: HUMAN rights defenders’ organizations have been advised to abstain from politics and instead work closely with the government to attain the common goals in areas, where they operate.

The piece of advice was given here yesterday by the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) Coordinator, Mr Onesmo Olengurumwa while speaking to reporters on his findings in the Central Zone.

He said it is time for the organizations to work closely with the relevant government authorities, which ensure that human rights are realized.

Expounding, Mr Olengurumwa said it has come to their attention that the central zone of Morogoro, Dodoma and Singida violate some human rights especially in the areas of gender violence.

“There are matters of early marriages  and female genital mutilation, thus human rights defender must work with the government, communities and law enforcement institutions to ensure they are addressed,” he said.

However, the Coordinator advised them to refrain from politics that only delays projects’ implementations, because some of them are affiliated with some political parties.

In a related development, he called upon law enforcing institutions to give cases of gender violence a lot of concern, especially the ones filed by the human rights.

He further said that human rights defenders organization should come up with a common understanding and focus on dealing with grassroots cases of human rights’ violation.

Equally, Mr Olengurumwa asked members of the human rights organisations to create a strong base, where institutions focusing on community projects are fully supported.
