AfricaPress-Tanzania: TAIFA Gas has donated two body disinfectant machines to the Parliament that would assist towards coronavirus fight in the premises.
That was said here yesterday by National Assembly Speaker, Mr Job Ndugai, after a Member of Parliament, was confirmed on Monday to have contracted the deadly disease.
Elaborating, he commended former Igunga Constituency legislator, Rostam Aziz for the donation after the National Assembly had asked for an assistance to have some equipment fixed to help MPs, Parliament staff and visitors presiding over the ongoing budget session be safe from the scourge.
According to Mr Ndugai, the parliament was also instructed to reduce sitting time from nine to four hours a day and members’ number squeezed from 350 to 150.
Earlier, the Speaker told reporters that a number of activities had been shifted to digital and visits to the MPs suspended indefinitely.
Commenting, Taifa Gas representative, Domigan Mkama, alerted the MPs that the machines do not treat a Covid-19 patient, but only kill the virus on a person’s body surface before it enters in the body to cause harm.
In use, they subject individuals to pass through them and temporarily stand there for at least five seconds, besides washing hands.
While standing within the machines’ yards, one gets sprayed by sensors, which rotate at 360 degrees.
“The five seconds are enough for one to have his/her entire body disinfected … and overstaying in the machine could wet one’s clothes,” said Mr Mkama.
One of the machines has been fixed at the Prime Minister’s gate and the other machine, according to Mr Ndugai will be fixed at the administration block entrance.
Mr Speaker, however, urged other firms and individual to support the parliament and other institutions in their quest to contain the novel virus.
At the handover ceremony, the Assembly Speaker and his Deputy Dr Tulia Akson, and Bunge Commissioners, including Jenista Mhagama first passed through the machines to show their efficiency.
