AfricaPress-Tanzania: MINISTER for Communication and Information Technology Dr Faustine Ndugulile has tasked the state telecommunication corporation—TTCL to triple the number of its subscribers from 2 percent to 6 percent annually.

He issued the directive during the ongoing working session bringing the corporation’s regional managers in Dodoma.

The Minister wants TTCL to add the number of its agents to help reach a wider population including its mobile money users.

Apparently there 2,800 agents countrywide and the Minister suggested the number to clock 3,080 agents by March this year.

“There is a need to increase the number of your service providers,” he said at the meeting also attended by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr Zainab Chaula and her deputy Dr Jim Yonazi.

He said the corporation must implement a total transformation of its systems to improve service provision. According to the Minister, TTCL customers are complaining of a number of services and that should be a red flag for the corporation.

Dr Ndugulile also directed TTCL to adopt an effective system that will help collect its bills from outstanding debtors, especially public institutions.

He urged the corporation’s executive director to immediately embark on notifying the institution of a planned disconnection of service.
