24

AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Innocent Bashungwa on Thursday clarified that the government has lifted the ban on online televisions only, and not other media outlets.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said all online televisions were free to continue with their operations without any restriction but reminded them to observe media rules and regulations.

He said there are 440 registered online TVs in the country and that some were banned due to various reasons including violation of the country’s laws.

Mr Bashungwa invited owners of other media outlets that have been banned, including newspapers to submit their appeals to the ministry for review.

He said the ministry is ready to go through each case so that together they can reach a consensus.

On Tuesday, President Samia Suluhu Hassan ordered the ministry to lift the ban imposed on media outlets.

“You should lift the ban but tell them to follow the law and government guidelines,” ordered the president.
