AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE government has acknowledged support rendered by Azam in fueling for sports development in the country saying they are active in many sport disciplines.
This was said recently by the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Innocent Bashungwa when he toured Chamazi Complex facilities in Dar es Salaam which is home to Azam FC.
“I am very pleased with the way Azam are working towards implementing government efforts to scale up sports development which cannot go without being appreciated. “We see them (Azam) everywhere like in boxing, football and many other games as such, on behalf of the government, let me applaud Azam for all the support they provide in sports sector,” Bashungwa said.
He therefore called upon Azam to continue the good gesture of working abreast with the government in enhancing sports while insisting that they plan to organise a special competition to be used as a platform for identifying talents.
“I want my ministry together with Azam and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) to organise a national competition which will attract all Districts and from that, we will be able to fish out various talents capable to be nurtured further for the benefit of the country. “Instead of letting Azam and TFF do scouting programmes separately, we want this time around to unite and do one big thing for the sake of sports advancement bearing in mind that we will get new talents,” he said.
He continued that by working as one unit, it will help to minimise costs incurred when scouting projects are done separately as such, his ministry will look on the best ways on how to run the exercise and ensure that all districts take part.
“This will go hand in hand with our vision to improve the Interprimary and Inter-secondary games. I know that here at Azam, you have different academies to absorb youth like the Under-20, Under-17 and Under-15. “When the planned national sports event is successfully done, you will also be able to get talented young people ready to join your academy and be drilled further. In such doing, the status of sports advancement will be acquired,” he noted.
Already, government announced that they will take a leading role in supporting all sport disciplines which fly high the national colours on the international face as one way to make them excel in such competitions.
They also called upon all flag carrier teams to stop entertaining the culture of pitching camps few days before the start of major competitions saying secret to excel is ample preparation.
