AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE government has asked Mwalimu Commercial Bank (MCB) to improve its efforts in reaching digital services to its customers.
The directives were issued in Dodoma by the Minister of State in President’s Office Regional Administration and Local Authorities, Selemani Jafo when launching the Mwalimu Visa card and digital services.
“Can you lower down costs so as to enable more teachers to access loans since they are most affected with the bad loans provided in the streets,” he said, adding that there are some teachers who were affected with higher interests’ loans and others failed to attend class sessions at their respective schools hence suspended due to bad loans.
Minister Jafo also asked the bank to have a strategy of recruiting more customers starting with teachers and other communities.
Bank’s board chairman, Francis Ramadhani, said one of their priority was to improve digital services and reach more customers.
He said the bank has launched banc assurance services that help customers in case they face any challenge and make compensation during catastrophe events.
Secretary-General of Tanzania Teachers Union, Deus Seif wanted all teachers to join the bank which would enable them to access loans with affordable interest rates.
He said in order to avoid being cheated and take loans from unknown people, the bank would enable them to access loans at affordable interest rates.
Late last year, MCB entered into a partnership with Airtel Tanzania which aimed at promoting financial inclusion in the country.
The Commercial manager for Mwalimu Commercial Bank Plc, Ombeni Kaale was quoted as saying the bank has allowed its teachers and other customers to take full control of the way they bank by designing a self-service channel with simple functionalities to make it easy to use and enable the majority of Tanzanians who finds it difficult to visit branches to have access to bank’s services at their conveniences.
