AfricaPress-Tanzania: The PRESIDENT of Zanzibar Dr. Hussein Mwinyi has instructed the Ministry of Works, Communications and Transport not to give the road construction project to the Roads Agency in the islands as they can not do the job and instead be given the task of sealing patches.
President Mwinyi made the remarks today at the State House in Zanzibar when he met with the Ministers and Permanent Secretaries as part of a session to receive instructions on the instructions he gave when he swore in them.
“Roads agencies should not do work that you cannot do, including road construction and instead focus on plugging the roads, and all highways should be given to large, capable companies that will be able to work effectively,” said President Mwinyi.
He said the ministry has a lot of work to do to strengthen road infrastructure, airports, ports and communications so it is important to evaluate itself.
He also called on the Ministry of Works, Communications and Transport, to strengthen its institutions properly as the ministry is the backbone of Zanzibar’s economy so it should make a concerted effort to ensure it fulfills its responsibilities as its institutions rely heavily on economic growth. of Zanzibar.
He also said he was dissatisfied with the performance and revenue collection at Abeid Aman Karume Airport and called on the Ministry to ensure it maintains tax-friendly infrastructure.
On the port side, President Mwinyi said there was still a leak in revenue for ships providing domestic services and called on the ministry to work on the issue while insisting on ensuring all government funds are collected in the right way.
