GOVT LEADERS DIRECTED TO REACH OUT TO CITIZENS

AfricaPress-Tanzania: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has instructed all government leaders and executives to reach out to citizens, hear their problems and help to solve them.

“We should be responsible to them rather than waiting for national leaders’ visits. I use this opportunity to tell government leaders and executives that we will assess your performance based on how you address citizens’ challenges in your areas,” Premier stated.

Mr Majaliwa gave the directive in Parliament on Friday when concluding debate on President John Magufuli’s speech he made in November last year when he inaugurated the 12th Parliament.

MPs spent some days during the week debating the speech.

The Prime Minister said the leaders and executives had been entrusted to serve citizens.

Therefore, he called upon every government leader to ensure they fulfilled their responsibilities effectively while the government on its part would ensure it took measures against those violating laws, regulations and procedures guiding their jobs.

“We will never bear with negligent government employees who do not deliver in their workplace,” he insisted.

Mr Majaliwa explained that the country had been making great efforts to prepare budget plans for implementing various government priorities intended to bring about social development.

However, there was a challenge of some government leaders who did not deliver to public expectations.

He said in addressing that challenge, the fifth phase government had focused on reinstating discipline among public servants by emphasising integrity, accountability, efficient service provision and taking measures against all officials who went against the code of conduct.

Meanwhile, the Premier used the opportunity to assure MPs that their suggestions would be considered during the implementation of government priorities.

He further assured Parliament that projects that were being implemented in different sectors, including agriculture, livestock, natural resources, minerals as well as education and health  would be completed on time.
