NEW Z’BAR MINISTERS MAKE GREAT PROMISES

AfricaPress-Tanzania: The President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi has sworn in the three ministers he appointed yesterday to hold various positions in the various ministries of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, while promising to work in accordance with the law and good governance as well as declaring Zanzibar to be a major business hub in the East and Central African region. .

The sworn in ministers are Dr Saada Mkuya Salum who is the Minister of State, Office of the First Vice President, Nassor Ahmed Mazrui (Minister of Health, Social Welfare, Gender and Children) and Omar Said Shaaban who will head the Ministry of Trade and Industry Development.

The appointment of the ministers completes the number of 16 ministers of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar after the three ministries became vacant since the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council announced the first Cabinet on November 19, last year.

In addition, President Mwinyi has sworn in Salum Yussuf Ali as the Commissioner of the Zanzibar Revenue Board (ZRB) after appointing him on February 10, this year.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the State House in Zanzibar and was attended by various national leaders including the vice president, Othman Masoud Othman and Hemed Suleiman Abdalla, Secretary of the Revolutionary Council and Principal Secretary, Zena Said and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Zubeir Ali Maulid.

Speaking at various times, Shaaban said this was the time to bring back the old days of making Zanzibar a hub for trade as well as the production and transportation of various goods including spice products.

“Among my major responsibilities is to ensure that Zanzibar becomes a major trade hub in the East and Central African region in the trade and investment sector … we will achieve these goals through the implementation of the blue economy,” said Shaaban, who is a lawyer by profession.

For her part, Saada Mkuya said she would ensure that cross-cutting issues are given priority as well as the policies of various groups including the disabled to ensure that their goals are fully achieved in the national interest.

Mazrui said he would make sure he continues to pursue health goals for all by strengthening those services including in urban and rural hospitals to have the status of providing quality services.

Earlier Zanzibar Revenue Board Commissioner, Salum Yussuf Ali promised the people of Zanzibar to work with utmost honesty and integrity to restore work discipline and discipline of government revenue collection which is used for running various government services.
