AfricaPress-Tanzania: KAGERA Sugar have unveiled coach, Francis Baraza, as the side’s new head coach on a two-and-a-half year

The Kenyan coach has joined the team taking over the reins of his predecessor, Mecky Mexime who parted ways with the team over allegations of dissatisfaction with their results in this season’s Vodacom Premier League (VPL).

Baraza, who had previously trained Biashara United, had helped the team garner tremendous success in the top flight.

The Mara-based club is placed fourth in the Premier League with 39 points and it has also booked a place in the last 16 of the Azam Sports Federation Cup.

Baraza has confirmed that he has already left his former club and will now be in a new team to continue his career.

“I have already left Biashara United, let me have a new challenge, this is my job and I am not afraid of anything as I look foward to new challenges,” he disclosed.

Baraza, who lifted the Kenya Premier League (KPL) title with Sony Sugar in 2006, had realistic chance of winning the VPL this season with his former club.

The Mara side is 11 points behind the VPL leaders Yanga.

Baraza has been riding on the high tides with Bashara United, a small club based in a small town of Musoma, since he left Kenya for a greener pasture in Tanzania in November 2019.

It is reported that Kagera Sugar FC has tabled an irresistible offer to the man who has coached Chemelil, Sony Sugar, and Muhoroni FC, among other clubs in Kenya.

Unlike Biashara United, who are barely three years in the league, Kagera Sugar FC boast of a solid foundation and relatively strong financial muscle that they want to use to push themselves out of the bottom half.

It is clear although Kagera Sugar have money and good welfare for coaches, Biashara United have more success in the Premier League.

Kagera Sugar are struggling and they have therefore chose to hire Baraza.

Baraza is the only Kenyan coach to have lifted two league titles as a player and one as a coach.

He won the league with AFC Leopards in 1998 and Oserian (2001) before guiding Sony Sugar to their only top podium finish in 2006.

contract and he will next week start serving the Bukoba-based team.
