MAJI MAJI PITCH CAMP, FOCUS ON PROMOTION

AfricaPress-Tanzania: MAJI MAJI team manager, Shaibu Ibrahim has expressed their commitment to challenge the group A teams leaders Ihefu and Dodoma Jiji when the First Division League (FDL) resumes on June 1st this year.

The First Division League will be staged at Nyamagana and CCM Kirumba stadiums, both based in Mwanza.

Speaking with the ‘Daily News’ yesterday, Shaibu said the team’s players are keen to play in the Premier League and that is their man focus when they returned camp yesterday.

He also called upon the teams’ fans in Ruvuma Region to continue supporting their team with anything they have from cartons of water to food and cash so as to facilitate the team’s one-month stay in Mwanza during the league.

Shaibu, the former Matalawe FC and Mbambi Vijana FC player, further called upon the fans to cheer their team in their four remaining matches against Njombe Mji FC, Dodoma Jiji FC, African Lyon and Pan African.

Maji Maji, the former Union Cup champions are placed third on the log after collecting 34 points from 18-game outings. They have won ten, drawn four and lost four matches.

They have netted 20 and conceded 14 goals. Maji Maji FC used to be among the strong teams in the 1980’s whereby they were crowned Union Cup champs twice.

The Songea outfit then boasted of stars like Madaraka Seleman, Iddi Pazi, Celestine Mbunga ‘Sikinde’, Octavian Mrope and Peter Mhina who also featured for the national team, Taifa Stars.
