AfricaPress-Tanzania: FIRST Division League (FDL) side Transit Camp FC’s goalkeepers’ coach, Salehe Tendega, is still in critical condition and he therefore had to be transferred to a special care unit of Dar es Salaam’s Muhimbili Hospital Orthopedic Institute (MOI).
Tendega suffered serious head injuries in car accident his team faced in Nzega District, Tabora on March 8.
The motor vehicle was carrying players and some of the team’s officials on their way back to Dar es Salaam after playing the FDL match against Mwanza’s Alliance FC at Nyamagana Stadium on March 6 and won 3-1.
Transit Camp FC further lost the team’s legal instructor, Idd Mikongoti, who passed away.
A spokesman for the Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI), Patrick Mvungi, said Tendega was taken to the hospital at 9pm and he was placed in an emergency unit as he had suffered serious head injuries.
“It is true that Tendega has been brought to the hospital and taken to the emergency room due to his condition and we are planning to take him to the Moi Special Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further treatment,” he disclosed.
Trasit Camp FC posted on the club’s Instagram network, stating: “The club would like to inform the players that on March 8, our convoy of players and officials crashed in Nzega areas involving a cargo truck and a car, which consisted of our leaders as well as players.”
The statement stated: “As a result of the accident several injuries were found along with the death of one person and the injured are continuing receiving treatment at the hospital.”
“In addition, the club would like to clarify some of the rumours that have spread in some media outlets, that brother Salehe Tendega has not died but he is one of the casualties involved in the accident.”
”Tendega is our goalkeepers’ coach and not the goalkeeper as some reports suggest.”
”For more information we will keep you informed when necessary,” the statement from the team’s information department revealed.
As a result of the accident, the Tanzania Premier League Board has postponed the match between Transit Camp FC and Fountain Gate FC which was to be held at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on March 12 and the match will be rescheduled
