“They promised to come and they have done it, we thank them for this cooperation, golf makes us close and has cemented our brotherhood, the army has shown the way and we think the civilians from the two countries will join us later,” said Waitara who is among the players.
Explaining further on the tournament, Luwongo said that the prestigious club competition is organised to honour Waitara, who is the founder of the par-72 Lugalo Golf course in 2006 and a big golf fan.
It is a stroke play net tournament for men who will be seeking Division A, B and C title while other categories are Senior Players and Ladies. However, he said that professional golfers, who will be battling it out for the cash prizes, were also invited.

Esoko added: “We always say if we as a military can work together it is for the good of the two nations and we shall lead the way into action. This is our second time after first 2019 and since then our colleagues from here came to Malawi. “We will continue acting this way and through golf we thought its good thing and golf is a good forum for Generals to be in the act.” The tournament for amateur players start today, but professional golfers played yesterday.
