AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) yesterday joined the rest of Tanzanian’s to honour Mwalimu Nyerere for his outstanding leadership and struggle for the independence of Africa and unity.
It has been 21 years since the nation lost the founding father of the nation. Every year the nation marks this day to remember his struggles to liberate African nations in his 20- year Presidency of the United Republic of Tanzania.
According to the TCA Communication Officer, Atif Salimu: “Mwalimu indeed as we all recall him as the Father of the Nation, whose aim was not just to free Tanzanians from colonialism, but also to unite them into one nation.”
“Indeed, the very early forms of entertainment that the people had back in the time was sports and sports used to bring people together and Mwalimu was a visionary leader who realized the power of sports in strengthening the brotherhood amongst different types of sects and cultures.”
In the coming season TCA expect to host a tournament in memory of Mwalimu Nyerere as an acknowledgement of his contribution to the peace loving country.
“We remember Mwalimu fondly and have even hosted various tournaments in the past in his memory, we heading to certainly revive them in the coming season.”
Meanwhile, TCA postponed the DC Caravans T-20 tournament matches that were to be staged yesterday at the leaders club. This postponement was due to the inclement weather which forced many events to be rescheduled.
The tournament is staged in two groups, that are Group A and B.
Group A include Aga Khan Cricket Sports Club (AKSC), Aces, Shree Kutchi Leva Patel Sports Club (SKLPSC), General Petroleum PAK Stars.
Group B has Caravans, Annadil Burhani, Strikers, Dar Gymkhana and Dar es Salaam Cricket Club (DCC).
The games that were scheduled to take place included; Strikers to face Dar es Salaam Cricket Club, Union to lock horns with Agha Khan Sports Club and Shree Kutchi facing General Petroleum.
