Africa-Press – Uganda. The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has extended the deadline for submission of nomination forms for parliamentary and local government positions to Friday, July 18, 2025.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the party’s Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mahmoud Kazimbiraine, said the extension is aimed at accommodating members who were unable to meet the earlier deadline due to time constraints or other challenges.
“The deadline for picking and returning of Application/Declaration of Interest Forms has been extended purposely to allow those who were caught up by time and/or other challenges to express interest for various elective positions,” Kazimbiraine noted.
He also confirmed that Apac Municipality will be treated as a special case, in line with prior party communications.
The development comes as UPC ramps up its internal processes in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
The party—known for its social democratic stance—has stressed grassroots mobilization and equitable participation as central to its campaign strategy.
Party members and aspiring candidates have been urged to make full use of the additional days to complete all required formalities ahead of the new deadline.
