PFF Launches in Ntungamo, Opens District Office Amid Police Arrests

Africa-Press – Uganda. The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has officially launched its activities in Ntungamo District, opening a new office just two months after the party’s formation.

Leaders called for integrity ahead of the 2026 elections, warning members against money-driven politics and urging them to challenge ruling NRM candidates.

At the launch event, party officials encouraged members to seek elective positions fearlessly and embrace the alliance between PFF and the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).

They accused the ruling NRM of entrenched corruption and military dominance in governance.

“Let’s create a gap for those seeking refuge because many who have lost NRM elections are likely to come. Give them refuge, though some might come with hidden agendas,” said Venansio Ahabwe, former MP candidate for Kajara County and PFF district patron.

Farida Nangozi, National Chairperson of the PFF Women’s League, praised members for joining the movement.

“It’s a great mark that many of you have decided to create change here in Ntungamo. Men, allow your wives to join this fight. Don’t deny them,” she urged.

MP Naboth Namanya of Rubabo County cautioned against political complacency.

“Don’t allow NRM candidates to boast of winning unopposed,” he said, adding, “Reduce the appetite for money from the Movement because our people are being misled.”

Former Leader of the Opposition Wafula Ogutu declared PFF’s readiness to challenge the government.

“We are prepared to push this government until they run away or negotiate. This country belongs to all of us, and we will decide its future,” he said.

Ogutu also spoke against political detentions, referencing the incarceration of Doctor Besigye.

“They fear him and don’t want him free, even though he’s not standing against them,” he noted.

Salam Musumba, former MP and PFF Speaker, hailed the political awakening in Ntungamo.

“I’m glad we’ve brought hope to a place that was captured, where no one spoke out. Don’t let any leader go unchallenged. Don’t allow NRM to run unopposed,” she said.

Following the launch, supporters marched through Ntungamo Town chanting slogans in support of political prisoners before officially opening the district office, which party leaders said would be a base to reclaim political power.

However, after the event had concluded, police arrived and arrested individuals wearing party uniforms.

“We have been peaceful; however, the police came after the function, taking all those wearing the uniform. Many others wearing yellow T-shirts were not arrested,” Nangozi remarked.
