Africa-Press – Uganda. NRM Parliamentary Caucus spokesperson Alex Brandon Kintu says some candidates for the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) are more motivated by exposure, networking, and strategic opportunities than by winning outright.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming delegates’ conference, Kintu noted that contestants often seek chances to meet the Party Chairman, gain recognition, and negotiate influence within the party.

“I think all members of the NRM are very patriotic about how the NRM Constitution works. Very many people, including myself, are excited to attend the Delegates’ Conference,” he said.

NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong acknowledged the financial demands of campaigns but warned against excessive spending, bribery, and voter enticement, which could result in disqualification.

He emphasized that the CEC, elected every five years, is the party’s highest decision-making organ, with fewer than 30 members chosen by representatives from across the party.
