FDC Leaders Urge Busoga to Back Mafabi in 2026 Polls

Africa-Press – Uganda. Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders have called on residents of Busoga sub-region to rally behind their presidential candidate, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, in the upcoming January 2026 elections, warning that failure to do so could deny the region a say in shaping Uganda’s future leadership.

Addressing supporters during campaign stops in Buyende and Kamuli districts, FDC president Patrick Amuriat Oboi said Busoga’s numerical strength could be decisive in promoting change, especially on issues of high taxation, poor infrastructure, and corruption which the party says have continued to hurt ordinary Ugandans.

Amuriat described Mafabi as a “capable, experienced and wise leader from the East,” adding that unlike most of the current candidates who hail from western and central Uganda, Mafabi represents a chance for the East to front its own leader.

Of the eight presidential aspirants, five are from the West, two from the Central region, with only Mafabi representing the East.

“If Busoga fails to vote Mafabi, it may take long before the East gets another opportunity to influence national leadership,” Amuriat said, urging voters to remember the party’s key symbol on the ballot paper.

Party officials, accompanied by Mafabi, held rallies at Makanga, Kasolwe and Buyende Town Council, where residents lined roadsides, flashing V-signs and cheering in support.

The FDC leadership argued that Uganda’s wealth has long remained in the hands of a few, keeping the majority of citizens trapped in poverty, and pledged that a Mafabi presidency would prioritise equity and development.
