Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni has sold his vision for the people of Apac in Lango sub-region in the next five years.
Museveni, who is currently campaigning for yet another term as president on Friday addressed a rally at Apac Booma grounds where he made a couple of promises to the area which is also the home district for deceased former president, Apollo Milton Obote.
“You have eight health centre IIIs in the 12 sub counties and one government hospital in the district. Since you said you are going to elect me and NRM, the health centre II in Akere will be upgraded to health centre III. A new health centre is to be constructed in Atik,” Museveni said.
He added,”Maruzi North Constituency doesn’t have a health centre IV but in the next kisanji, Teboke health centre III will be upgraded to a health centre IV and an ambulance given to them.”
Speaking amidst cheers from the gathering that welcomed his basket of goodies, Museveni said the NRM has been active in Uganda and Africa for the last 65 years, noting that during these years, the party has been diagnosing the country’s problems.
“Initially we were members of the old political parties like DP, UPC as youth wingers. However, by 1965 we started seeing problems of those parties and the things they were missing. That’s how we started forming study groups in universities. When Amin came into government, we started taking up arms as FRONASA that time.”
“Those who are old enough know history of Uganda and that it had become ungovernable. There were reasons why it was so. It was mainly because of sectarian politics of tribes and religion and neglecting women. Because of seeing that danger, we are for politics of unity. That’s why you hear us talking of patriotism. Love Uganda because you need it as market for your products and for security. Because of that we have been able to build a strong army.”
He said on the account of a strong army, Uganda has been at peace and united for over 20 years, noting that this has been the spring board of development.
According to Museveni, several roads have been constructed, electricity extended and piped water among other elements of economic infrastructure which are the foundation for the development of the country.
He said social infrastructure like schools and health centres too have been erected.
“Because of being strong and staying in government for long time and because of correct economic policies, we have been able to start dealing with infrastructure development. In Lango area we started by tarmacking the Soroti-Lira Road(122.9km) which was murram while the Kamdini-Gulu-Lira(66.5km) had grown old and we had to do it again up to Tororo.”
According to Museveni, works on the 90.9km Rwenkunye to Apac road are ongoing, currently at 66% while works for Apac-Lira- Puranga are currently standing at 80%.
Museveni also mentioned electricity extended to many parts of Lango which he said initially didn’t have electricity but are currently connected to the national grid.
Wealth creation
Museveni took this opportunity to emphasise that every Ugandan should be involved in a money-making venture.
He said while development is for everyone, wealth is for individuals.
“Wealth is yours, either as an individual or company. Tarmac road is for us all to use. You cant sleep on the tarmac. Even when you use a tarmac road, you will go back home and poverty will be waiting for you. From 1960s, we have been on the issue of wealth creation of Uganda. Some people have listened to our message but others have not. I am appealing to Ugandans to please use PDM money to get yourselves out of poverty,” he appealed.
“With football there are players and spectators. We don’t want some people to be wealth creators and others spectators. You must all be wealth creators.”
