Africa-Press – Uganda. In a demonstration of its commitment to education, youth empowerment, and financial inclusion, Tropical Bank Limited has extended support to Kibuli Secondary School’s sports team, recognizing their outstanding performance at the 22nd Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games held in Kenya from August 12 to 23, 2025.

Kibuli SS emerged as one of the top-performing schools, securing multiple awards in badminton, lawn tennis, table tennis, and the FUFA Football Cup, among others.

In celebration of the school’s success, Tropical Bank sponsored the annual sports dinner where the winning teams were honored.

The event was presided over by the Bank’s Executive Director, Hajat Joweria Mukalazi, who presented a cash prize of shs1.5 million to the athletes in recognition of their achievements.

“We are proud to stand with Kibuli SS and support the growth of sports and education. Your victory is a testament to the power of talent, discipline, and determination,” said Hajat Mukalazi.

She also held discussions with the school headteacher Hajji Ibrahim Ssemakadde and the school’s management team, focusing on ways to enhance academic excellence, nurture student talent, and support upcoming development projects at the school.

She reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to providing tailored financial solutions to the education sector and pledged continued collaboration in driving innovation and growth within the school community.

In a major announcement at the event, Hajat Mukalazi revealed that Tropical Bank Limited has officially received an Islamic Banking license from the Bank of Uganda, granting it the authority to offer Shari’ah-compliant banking services.

“Obtaining the Islamic Banking license is a major milestone that reflects our vision of inclusive financial services, especially for customers seeking ethical and Shari’ah-aligned banking options,” she stated.

Preparations are currently underway for the full rollout of Islamic Banking operations across Uganda.

Adding to the day’s highlights, Hajat Mukalazi launched the Tropi-Smart Account, a digital banking innovation that allows Ugandans to open a bank account using just a National ID and a mobile phone.

She said the Tropi-Smart Account is designed to make saving, borrowing, and making payments more accessible, affordable, and secure, particularly for students, teachers, and people in rural and underserved communities.

“With Tropi-Smart, we’re bringing banking services closer to the people, bridging financial gaps and supporting Uganda’s journey toward full financial inclusion,” Hajat Mukalazi added.

Hajji Ibrahim Ssemakadde, Headteacher of Kibuli SS, expressed deep appreciation for the bank’s continuous support.

“Tropical Bank’s partnership with our school is more than financial; it’s transformational. Their new digital and Islamic banking services will greatly benefit our students, teachers, and community,” he said.
