Africa-Press – Uganda. The fifth edition of the annual insurance week organised by the Insurance Regulatory Authority(IRA) has been launched.
The launch officiated by the IRA CEO, Al Hajji Ibrahim Lubega Kaddunabbi was held at the Insurance Towers in Kampala.
Speaking during the function, Kaddunabbi said this year’s edition set for March 19 to 26 will be held at the Constitutional Square in Kampala and will also run concurrently at the IRA regional centres in Mbale, Mbarara and Gulu.
“This initiative reaffirms our commitment to expand access to insurance services both national wide and worldwide but also provides a platform for the industry to engage with the public, deepen their understanding and appreciation of insurance and showcasing industry products and innovations which address consumer complaints,”Kaddunabbi said.
He said during this year’s edition, there will be a desk for complaints to be handled by the regulator and sector players.
Kaddunabbi underscored the rationale behind the annual insurance week as a bridge between the players, regulators and members of the public.
“This is an opportunity to exchange ideas on what is happening and what can be done better but also helps to ensure insurance is accessible and trusted to all Ugandans.”
He urged members of the public to attend the insurance week where they fully engage with licenced players and key financial players as one of the ways to acquire knowledge about insurance.
Kaddunabbi said during this year’s edition, NIRA will have a desk where Ugandans will be registered for new national IDs and renewals.
He said the week will culminate into the 2025 annual insurance awards.
Saul Seremba, the Executive Director of the Insurance Training College hailed IRA for commitment and consistence to organise the insurance week that he said is a rare opportunity that brings the regulator, insurance players and members of the public under one space to talk about the sector and how it can be deepened.
