Africa-Press – Uganda. The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, officially opened Viva College School’s new state-of-the-art science and technology building during celebrations marking 10 years of existence in Jinja on Saturday.

The milestone event brought together top leaders, educators, and community members to celebrate a decade of quality education at the school.

Students showcased a wide range of practical skills acquired over the years, including tailoring, agriculture, electrical work, soap making, and other hands-on projects, demonstrating the school’s commitment to combining academic learning with life-ready skills.

In his remarks, Mayiga emphasized the transformative power of education in leadership.

“Ideas that can transform Uganda and the world come from leaders who understand the thoughts of the people, apply them thoughtfully, and turn them into action that benefits society. Education is the food of the mind and a key tool in preparing leaders who can meet the needs of people in areas such as food, health, clothing, education, medicine, infrastructure, and employment,” he said.

Mayiga added that education must cultivate competent leaders capable of distinguishing right from wrong and applying knowledge responsibly to improve society.

The founder of Viva College School, Dr. Juma Kisaame, reflected on the institution’s journey over the past decade, noting that the school’s achievements and the caliber of its students demonstrate the impact education can have on national development.

Viva College School, recognized for its strong leadership programs, has also contributed over Shs 20 million to support HIV/AIDS initiatives during the Kabaka’s Birthday run scheduled for April 12, 2026.
