Africa-Press – Uganda. The Capital Markets Authority Uganda has convened a capacity-building workshop for business founders at Four Points by Sheraton Kampala, aimed at equipping entrepreneurs with the knowledge and technical expertise needed to access and effectively participate in Uganda’s capital markets.

The workshop focused on strengthening investment readiness among businesses, with sessions covering how to craft compelling financial narratives to attract private equity, explore diverse capital-raising avenues for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and understand the requirements for listing on the stock exchange.

Participants were also introduced to the deal flow facility implemented by Financial Sector Deepening Uganda in collaboration with the Capital Markets Authority, an initiative designed to connect businesses with potential investors and financing opportunities.

The training aligns with the Authority’s mandate on issuer education and forms part of broader efforts to deepen market participation, foster sustainable growth, and contribute to Uganda’s long-term economic transformation.

In her opening remarks, Josephine Okui Ossiya, Chief Executive Officer of the Capital Markets Authority, emphasized the institution’s commitment to expanding access to investment opportunities and supporting businesses in raising capital.

“It is very easy to come up with ideas, but the challenge lies in execution, which requires capital. As the Capital Markets Authority, we are committed to supporting businesses to create pathways and ensure that capital markets work for them,” she said.

Since its establishment, the Capital Markets Authority has played a central role in shaping Uganda’s financial ecosystem. The Authority has facilitated the raising of approximately shs 2.3 trillion through public offers and supported the growth of market capitalization to shs15.9 trillion.

It has also contributed to the emergence of private markets as a key growth channel and driven innovation through initiatives such as sustainability bonds, crowdfunding, Islamic capital markets, and a regulatory sandbox.

In addition, the Authority’s investor education programmes have expanded significantly, reaching more than 20 million Ugandans and promoting wider participation in capital markets.
