Africa-Press – Uganda. The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, has accused government of neglecting the Buyanja–Nyakaina road, which connects to Kabale University’s Rukungiri Campus, saying the stretch urgently requires rehabilitation to ease transport for residents and students.
Bishop Asiimwe made the remarks during the closure of a three-day diocesan mission at St John’s Nyakaina Church of Uganda Parish in Kyamakanda Archdeaconry.
He said the road has remained in poor condition despite repeated calls for improvement, noting that it has become a daily burden for the community.
“The road is in poor state and urgently needs rehabilitation to ease transport for both students, staff and the surrounding community,” he said.
The bishop also warned against the growing commercialization of politics in Uganda, urging Christians to elect leaders guided by vision and service rather than handouts.
He cautioned voters against supporting individuals who lure them with items such as salt or hoes, saying such practices undermine democracy and development.
During the same mission, Rev Isaiah Arinaitwe, the parish priest of Nyarurambi Parish in the Diocese of Kigezi and guest preacher, condemned rising cases of adultery in the region. He said the vice has eroded moral values, broken families and contributed to spiritual decline.
“The sin spares no one, regardless of education level or wealth. I want to warn you believers to turn back to God,” Rev Arinaitwe said.
