Africa-Press – Uganda. The President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, has accused security agencies of escalating a campaign of abductions and arrests targeting party members across the country.
In a statement issued via his social media platforms on Saturday, Kyagulanyi said armed soldiers seized party activist Calvin Tasi , also known as “Bobi Giant,” outside a soft drinks factory in Kawempe earlier in the day, whisking him away in a vehicle commonly referred to locally as a “drone.”
He added that in Katakwi District, police detained several NUP leaders, including Okware Jonathan, who coordinates the Teso sub-region, Toroma County chairperson Ijonai Juventine, and other candidates recently nominated for local government positions.
They are currently being held at Katakwi Central Police Station.
Kyagulanyi also cited other arrests in recent days.
“On Friday, NUP’s head of Mobilization Buwembo Habib was violently arrested from Mityana District as he conducted a peaceful party activity,” he said.
“The same day, comrade Richard Kavuma (Pastor RK Madogo) was once again grabbed and dragged off the streets of Mbarara City for preaching the NUP message, while in Mbale, several NUP leaders including its Bugisu sub-region coordinator were violently arrested for celebrating their nomination as NUP flagbearers!
“All these comrades are currently in detention.”
The opposition leader described the incidents as a “calculated scheme to silence NUP supporters worldwide,” dismissing claims by security operatives that the arrests were lawful enforcement measures.
NUP has repeatedly accused President Museveni’s government of harassment and intimidation ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Museveni has consistently denied targeting opponents, maintaining that security forces act to preserve law and order.
