Bobi Wine Cites Judge’S Testimony to Condemn Uganda’S Failing Healthcare System

Africa-Press – Uganda. National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has criticised the Ugandan government over the country’s deteriorating healthcare system, citing the personal account of Justice Irene Mulyagonja as evidence of systemic failure.

Justice Mulyagonja, a judge on the Constitutional Court and former Inspector General of Government (IGG), recently shared the challenges she faced while seeking medical care for her late husband, senior advocate John Baptist Kakooza.

She described Mulago National Referral Hospital as “a monument,” in a stark critique of its current state.

“When you see a judge of the second-highest Court in Uganda complaining about expensive healthcare and dilapidated hospitals, then you can imagine what ordinary Ugandans go through daily,” Kyagulanyi said in a statement.

He accused President Museveni’s administration of prioritising political survival over public welfare.

The NUP leader pointed to the recent allocation of public funds to Members of Parliament to pass the controversial UPDF Amendment Bill, saying those resources could have been used to equip healthcare facilities like Mulago Hospital with essential medical supplies.

“That money, our money, which Museveni recently gave to greedy MPs, could ensure Mulago is well-stocked for a long time,” he said.

“But the regime’s focus is staying in power through repression.”

Kyagulanyi’s remarks come amid increasing public concern over the quality of health services in Uganda, where underfunding, staff shortages, and poor infrastructure continue to hamper patient care.

Calling for collective action, Kyagulanyi urged Ugandans to speak out against the status quo.

“Until we say enough, the suffering will continue.”
