Africa-Press – Uganda. The Kingdom of Buganda has encouraged political leaders across the country to prioritize the needs and welfare of their constituents, instead of making unfulfilled promises and exploiting voters for political gain.
The call was made during an official visit by the Republican Front Party to the Kingdom’s administrative headquarters at Bulange Mengo, where the party leadership held discussions with officials from the Buganda Kingdom.
The delegation, led by Republican Front Party President Biira Henry Kisakye, met with the Kingdom’s Minister in charge of information and mobilisation Israel Kitooke
During the meeting, President Biira reaffirmed his party’s commitment to collaborating with the Buganda Kingdom and supporting its core priorities, including development and federalism.
He emphasised that the Republican Front Party champions a “politics of development” and fully supports the push for a federal system of governance, which he said would enhance effective and inclusive leadership throughout the country.
“We are here to express our willingness to work hand in hand with Buganda in promoting development and safeguarding its interests. Our party will not associate with individuals or groups that seek to undermine the Kingdom,” Biira stated.
He further noted that all Republican Front candidates would be carefully vetted to ensure they uphold the values of integrity, cooperation with cultural institutions, and commitment to federalism.
In response, Israel Kitooke welcomed the party’s efforts to engage constructively with the Kingdom and expressed appreciation for their alignment with Buganda’s long-standing call for a federal governance structure. He urged all political actors to put the people first by focusing on service delivery, environmental protection, improved governance, and addressing pressing community challenges.
“Here in Buganda, we prioritise federalism because we believe it is the most effective system for ensuring the welfare of our people and communities,” said Kitooke.
He also issued a stern warning to politicians against taking voters for granted by offering empty promises during campaigns only to neglect them once in office.
“Give your voters respect. Do not exploit or deceive them into giving you votes while leaving them in misery,” Kitooke cautioned.
Kitooke reaffirmed the Kingdom’s neutral stance in partisan politics, emphasising that Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi’s leadership is inclusive and welcomes all people regardless of political affiliation.
He clarified that while the Kingdom does not dictate electoral choices, it has a duty to offer guidance on critical issues affecting the wellbeing of its people.
The meeting concluded with a renewed call to political actors nationwide to embrace dialogue over hostility, especially when addressing differences, and to work collectively towards national unity and sustainable development.
The Republican Front Party’s engagement with the Buganda Kingdom marks a significant step in fostering cooperation between cultural institutions and political organisations, particularly around shared objectives such as federalism and the socioeconomic advancement of Ugandans.
