ULS UTAMU Launch Digital Skills for Legal Practice

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Uganda Law Society (ULS), in partnership with Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU), has launched two groundbreaking post-graduate programmes, the Post-Graduate Certificate in Digital Literacy for Lawyers and the Post-Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence for Lawyers.

The historic unveiling, held on August 28, 2025, at ULS House, follows momentum from the inaugural Digital Transformation Festival earlier in the month.

The initiative seeks to modernize legal practice by equipping lawyers with skills that align with global digital trends, from e-filing to AI-powered research.

UTAMU leaders underscored the relevance of the courses for every corner of the profession.

“Whether you are in private practice, corporate law, government service, or the judiciary, these courses will help you work smarter, stay secure, and deliver timely, high-quality services to your clients, added Prof. Jjunju.”

The programme promises practical, hands-on learning, with early bird applicants benefiting from discounted fees.

By integrating digital trust and artificial intelligence, the institutions aim to ease workflows, reduce reliance on physical files, and improve efficiency across the justice system.

Still, experts acknowledge challenges in transitioning from traditional practice. “We still face the challenge of convincing lawyers that it’s now possible to leave behind physical files and work beyond the confines of their chambers, said Paul Mukiibi.

Theres also a scarcity of local literature in this area, which has made the transition difficult. Many of us were trained in a manual system, so digital literacy has remained low. This initiative is a much-needed relief.” Noted Paul Mukiibi, a senior legal academic.

ULS Vice President Anthony Asiimwe pledged to personally enroll and urged members to seize the opportunity, signalling the Society’s commitment to ensuring no lawyer is left behind in embracing digital transformation.
