Africa-Press – Uganda. Bulemeezi beat Gomba to lift this year’s Buganda Masaza Cup in finals played at the Muteesa II Memorial Stadium in Wankulukuku on Saturday afternoon.

In an end to end game, Johnson Senyonga’s 71st minute strike was enough for Bulemeezi to silence the team from Gomba in a filled to capacity Wankulukuku stadium.

With the game still stalemate, Ssenyonga received the ball and took a spectacular long range strike that Gomba’s goalkeeper, Joseph Lubega could not dare stop.

The goal sent fans into frenzy at Wankulukuku.

Bulemeezi came close to doubling their lead again through Ssenyonga but Patrick Kagulire cleared the shot off the line.

Gomba’s quest for an equalizer remained fruitless as Bulemeezi defenders stuck their guns.

The win ensured Bulemeezi won their third Masaza Cup after lifting the trophy earlier in 2012 and 2019.

Earlier, in the loser’s match, Mawokota beat Buddu 3nil to seal the third spot, thanks to a brace from Calvin Peter Emayu and Dennis Kkonde’s goal.

In individual awards, Gomba’s Allan Oyirwoth was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, Yusuf Mukwana (Kyaggwe) claimed the top scorer title with seven goals, while Abdul Bagenda was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Buganda Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga congratulated the winners.

“We continue to witness exceptional talent, and I want to thank our partners, Airtel Uganda for making this possible. Such activities require a lot of support and over the years, Airtel has walked this journey with us by backing a number of initiatives spearheaded by the Kingdom which has enabled us to sustain activities like the Masaza Cup tournament year after year,” Mayiga said.
