Africa-Press – Uganda. Caroline Arituha has been duly nominated by the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest as an independent candidate for the Ibanda District Woman Member of Parliament seat in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
Arituha, who was among the five contenders for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag, came third in the party primaries with 908 votes, representing one percent of the total tally.
Her nomination took place at 4:30 p.m. and was presided over by Ms. Aidah Barekye, the Returning Officer for Ibanda District.
Other candidates nominated for the same seat include Winfred Aganyira as independent while Patricia Kenyange Ayamba, under the National Unity Platform (NUP)
Speaking shortly after her nomination, Arituha said she decided to run as an independent candidate following what she described as irregularities in the NRM primary elections.
“I decided to come back in the race because the NRM primaries were marred by irregularities and were not free and fair,” Arituha said. “My ambition was not only to have the party flag but also to serve and represent the people of Ibanda in Parliament.”
She emphasised that her decision was driven by her commitment to give Ibanda women and youth a strong voice in national leadership.
In other nominations across the district, Maj. (Rtd) Guma David Gumisiriza, the NRM flag bearer for Ibanda North Constituency, was also duly nominated and will face off against independents Xavier Kyoma Akampurira and Elias Tumubwine.
For Ibanda Municipality, the Electoral Commission confirmed the nomination of Peter Agaba (NRM flag bearer), Rashid Muganda (independent), Innocent Mwiine Bakakamuhara, and Salapio Betungura
In Ibanda South Constituency, NRM’s John Paul Ninkusima, Paulus Karekyezi, and Godwin Mpeirwe were also nominated to compete for the parliamentary seat.
