Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni has appointed Prof Jack Pen-Mogi Nyeko as the new Chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).
The appointment was confirmed in a letter signed by the President on 17 October 2025, and the tenure will run for a period of four years.
Prof Nyeko, aged 77, succeeds Prof Charles Mark Olweny, who has served as Chancellor of MUST since 2017.
“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by section 30 (1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act and acting on the recommendation of the University Council, I Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, do hereby appoint Prof. Jack Pen-Mogi Nyeko, chancellor, Mbarara University of Science and Technology for a period of four (4) years with effect from the date of assumption of duty.” Museveni’s letter reads in part.
Prof Nyeko was born in northern Uganda on 12 May 1948.
He graduated from Makerere University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine.
In 1981, he obtained a Master of Science degree from the University of Nairobi, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Makerere University in 1988.
His area of specialisation is molecular parasitology.
Prof Nyeko’s appointment marks a new chapter in the leadership of Mbarara University, one of Uganda’s leading institutions in science and technology education.
