Africa-Press – Uganda. Centenary Bank has joined hands with Rotary Uganda to officially launch the 2025 Rotary Cancer Run at Nsambya Hospital.

The activation event, spearheaded by the Rotary Hope Creator Presidents, sets the stage for the highly anticipated marathon slated for August 31, 2025, at Kololo Independence Grounds.

The initiative comes amid alarming figures from the Uganda Cancer Institute, which estimates that over 33,000 Ugandans are diagnosed with cancer annually. These statistics underscore the pressing need to strengthen efforts in prevention, early detection, and support for patients battling the disease.

Speaking at the activation ceremony, Centenary Bank Managing Director Dr. Fabian Kasi—who also serves as District 9213 Governor Nominee for 2025/26—commended Rotary Uganda and its partners for their enduring commitment to the fight against cancer.

“I want to thank Rotary for inviting us to be part of an engagement that is so dear to us as a people’s bank,” said Dr. Kasi.

“Our journey with Rotary International spans multiple projects in health, education, environmental sustainability, and community empowerment. It is an honor for Centenary Bank to be a key stakeholder in an initiative that continues to make a positive impact on Uganda’s health system.”

In his keynote address, Rotary International Director Elect Emmanuel Katongole emphasized the importance of collective action for social good.

“Today, we are standing in solidarity with patients to restore hope,” Katongole said. “This Cancer Run activation is a reminder that when Rotarians, partners, and citizens unite, we can raise funds, restore dignity, extend lives, and give those battling cancer a fighting chance. Let our legacy be that we chose to act, to care, and to unite for good.”

Centenary Bank has pledged shs500 million toward the 2025 Rotary Cancer Run as part of its ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Investment.

Annually, the bank dedicates 2% of its net profit to initiatives aimed at improving education, healthcare, livelihoods, and the environment.

To date, the bank has supported 13 editions of the Rotary Cancer Run, contributing over shs 3 billion to the cause. Its involvement extends beyond financial support, with active participation in more than 300 health camps nationwide and backing for a wide range of Rotary-led projects.

These include the Vijana Powa youth initiative, the Peace Center, blood bank programs, malaria prevention, cancer awareness parades, early detection campaigns, and the construction of vital cancer treatment infrastructure such as the Rotary-Centenary Bank Cancer Centre and radiation bunkers at Nsambya Hospital.

The 2025 Rotary Cancer Run is expected to draw thousands of participants and partners in a united effort to raise funds and awareness for cancer care and treatment in Uganda.
