Africa-Press – Uganda. More than 100 golfers from across Uganda turned out for the 2025 Kilembe Open Golf Tournament, where Joseph Chwinyai triumphed in a dramatic playoff and Hima Cement pledged long-term support to grow the sport.

The scenic Kilembe Golf Course in Kasese Municipality came alive over the weekend as it hosted the much-anticipated Kilembe Open Golf Tournament, attracting more than 100 players from across the country.

Sponsored by Hima Cement, the flagship event was more than just a competition—it was a celebration of talent and nature, set against the majestic backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains.

Joseph Chwinyai emerged as the overall champion after a tense playoff against Macknon Masereka, finishing with a gross score of 219. The narrow victory etched Chwinyai’s name among the tournament’s standout performers.

“I’m thrilled by the win. Playing on this course with such a unique terrain and cool climate was a fantastic experience,” Chwinyai said after his victory.

In the ladies’ category, Viola Ayeber delivered a remarkable performance, carding a 60 nett to secure the top spot. Laura Atukunda followed closely with a 69 nett score.

Beyond the contest on the greens, the event offered a perfect blend of sport and scenery. Players and spectators were treated to sweeping views of snowcapped peaks, lush fairways, and refreshing mountain breezes that elevated the experience.

“We invite golf lovers from all over the country to come and enjoy this magnificent course and the natural beauty surrounding it,” said Ronald Kwikiriza, Chairperson of Kilembe Golf Club.

Participants and visitors praised the tournament’s organization and setting.

“The experience here is unforgettable. From the views to the fairways, everything was well thought out and beautifully executed,” said Faith Namara of Mbarara Golf Club.

Adding a corporate touch, Hima Cement’s Brand and Communications Manager Joan Kitawona reaffirmed the company’s commitment to growing the sport, especially among young and emerging golfers.

“We are proud to support the Kilembe Open. Our goal is to nurture golf talent and contribute to the growth of the sport in Uganda,” said Kitawona.

She also revealed plans to expand the tournament in future editions.

“This is only the beginning. We want to grow this tournament into one of the most prestigious events on the national golf calendar,” she said.

With its fusion of top-level competition and captivating natural scenery, the Kilembe Open has cemented its place as a must-attend fixture on Uganda’s sporting calendar.
