Africa-Press – Uganda. The Uganda Cranes’ electrifying victory over Guinea at Namboole Stadium has not only energized football fans but also boosted local businesses and strengthened community pride, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has said.
Speaking at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, Dr. Dennis Mugimba, Chairperson of the Communications and Signage Sub-Committee, said the massive fan turnout created a ripple effect in surrounding communities, with restaurants, hotels, and transport operators benefiting from the influx of supporters.
“Football is more than a game — it’s an economic driver,” Mugimba said. “From roadside vendors to transport operators, everyone benefits when fans show up in such large numbers.”
Fan zones at KCCA Grounds and Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere also reported increased business as thousands gathered to watch the game on big screens.
Stadium kiosks, stocked with approved food and drinks, sold out before the final whistle, underscoring the commercial boost major sports events bring to host communities.
Mugimba urged Ugandans to continue turning up for the remaining matches, saying each ticket purchased supports both the national team and local livelihoods.
“Your cheers lift the players, and your presence supports the economy. Let’s keep the momentum going,” he said.
