Major Stadium Breach Forces CAF to Halt Ticket Sales at Kasarani

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has suspended ticket sales for upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) matches at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, following a major security breach during Kenya’s 1–0 victory over Morocco on Sunday.

Part of the stadium’s perimeter wall fencing was brought down by fans, allowing hundreds of ticketless spectators to force their way into the venue.

The breach, which occurred mid-match, seriously compromised stadium security and created dangerous overcrowding.

The suspension affects all remaining fixtures at Kasarani, including next Sunday’s crucial group-stage clash between Kenya and Zambia.

Ticketing service provider Mookh Africa confirmed the development in an email:

“After the security breach in Kasarani yesterday, ticket sales for Kasarani games have been suspended until further notice from the organisers,” the Mookh Support Team said.

Witnesses reported that after the fence came down, fans rushed past overwhelmed security personnel and packed into stands beyond safe capacity.

Several restricted areas — including the media centre — were also overrun. Police resorted to tear gas in an attempt to restore order.

CAF has fined the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Shs68.75 million for failing to control the crowd during the Morocco match, warning of harsher sanctions if such incidents happen again.

This adds to a mounting list of penalties:

Angola match: Shs27.5 million for admitting fans without tickets, Shs17.88 million for mishandling VIP/VVIP seating, and Shs3.58 million for allowing flares in the stands.

DR Congo match: Shs8.94 million for other safety violations.

This year’s CHAN is being jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Uganda Cranes, fresh from a convincing win over Guinea, face South Africa today (Monday) seeking a second consecutive victory to strengthen their knockout stage hopes.

With Kasarani now under intense scrutiny, organisers are under pressure to tighten safety protocols to prevent further chaos and ensure the rest of the tournament proceeds without incident.
