Africa-Press – Uganda. The Uganda Advertising Association (UAA), in partnership with The Loeries has today launched the 4th edition of the Silverback Awards, East Africa’s premier recognition platform for creativity in the marketing communications industry, under the theme, “Elevating the Grind ”.
The awards, which received over 100 submissions in 2024, saw an increase in expressions of interest from sector players based in Tanzania, Rwanda, and Kenya. This is further evidenced by this year’s sponsors.
Speaking about the awards, Rommel Jasi, Chairman of the Uganda Advertising Association, stated that the awards, which received over 100 submissions in 2024, saw an increase in expressions of interest from sector players based in Tanzania, Rwanda, and Kenya, hence the expansion to receive applications from players outside of Uganda:
“The Silverback Awards were founded on a clear vision: to inspire our industry to strive for greatness, not just locally, but on the global stage. As the official representatives of Cannes Lions in Uganda, we see this platform as a stepping stone, preparing our members and industry players to think, act, and create with a world-class mindset. Winning a Loerie, or even a Cannes Lions award, is one of the highest and greatest accolades for creativity and innovation across our region and world over”, he said.
The Loeries are Africa’s and the Middle East’s premier awards that recognise, reward, inspire and foster creative excellence in the advertising and brand communication industry; they also promote and support creativity by helping marketers, agencies and consumers appreciate the value of fresh thinking, innovative ideas and outstanding execution. On the other hand, the Cannes Lions celebrate creative excellence and effectiveness in every sector and discipline of the industry, and from every corner of the globe.
This year’s awards will kick off with the submissions portal, www.silverbackawards.com, opening on 4th August 2025. Eligible campaigns will only be considered as campaigns that featured between 1st August 2024 to 31st July 2025. The portal will close on 3rd October, followed by the judging process led by a select panel of judges from across the continent from 20th October to 6th November.
The youth will also get an opportunity to showcase their creative genius in Public Relations, Marketing, creative film, and design between 11th to 13th November. The campaign period will climax with the annual Communication Industry Symposium on 14th November and the Awards gala on 15th November, when the crème de la crème of those who have submitted and been judged accordingly, will be awarded with internship opportunities, medals, and certificates.
With our support, we have built and maintained a credible awards platform, from the integrity of entries to the prestige of the gala night organised by UAA, we have consistently upheld global standards. We hope that every participant walks away from this experience inspired to sharpen their vision, fuel their creativity, and keep pushing the boundaries of excellence”, stated Preetesh Sewraj, CEO- The Loeries
